![]() Legislative Action Alert: Protect Women's Access to Abortion Care in Health Care Reform December 02, 2009 Join us for sign waving at the Federal Building on Friday, Dec. 4th at 3:00! Tell Senators Akaka and Inouye to protect women’s ability to make private health care decisions without government interference! You have a critical role to play in the fight for women’s reproductive freedom in this country. We need everyone to let their senators know that we want health reforms that will protect reproductive freedom not put it in peril as the House did with its Stupak-Pitts amendment. The current Senate bill does not include the Stupak-Pitts language, but we are still a long way from victory. If we want to make sure the Senate stands up for women’s reproductive rights, we all need to come together and take action right now. 1) Join us for a sign waving event this Friday, December 4th from 3:00-5:00 pm at the Prince Kuhio Federal Building, 300 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu, HI. 2) Contact Senator Akaka and Senator Inouye today. Let them know that you want health care that will improve women’s lives – not interfere with them. Senator Daniel K. Akaka 141 Hart Senate Office Bldg. Washington, D.C. 20510-1103 Email: http://akaka.senate.gov (click on “contact me”) Telephone: (202) 224-6361; (202) 224-0792 (TRS*) Fax: (202) 224-2126 Senator Daniel K. Inouye 722 Hart Senate Office Bldg. Washington, D.C 20510-2201 Email: http://inouye.senate.gov (click on “contact me”) Telephone: (202) 224-3934; (202) 224-1233 Fax: (202) 224-6747 We suggest using the following language: Dear Senator (Akaka or Inouye), Please oppose any attempts to include additional abortion restrictions, like the Stupak-Pitts Amendment that was adopted by the House, in the Senate health care reform bill. The Stupak-Pitts Amendment is an unprecedented restriction on women's access to abortion, and the Senate should reject it unequivocally. Health care reform should improve women's health and lives, not interfere in their ability to get the health care they need. The Stupak-Pitts Amendment bans anyone who participates in the health care insurance Exchange from buying a plan that covers abortion if they receive a federal subsidy. This is government interference in a woman's most private and personal health care decisions. A woman facing an unintended pregnancy should be able to decide what is best for herself and her family. The Stupak-Pitts Amendment puts politics before a woman's health. A woman's access to reproductive health care services, including abortion, in health care reform is a critical issue for me, and I urge you to protect that right. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to receiving your response. TAKE ACTION NOW!
