Legislative Action Alert
April 24, 2009

Your kokua needed for our final push to pass the Civil Unions Bill this year.

The Civil Union Bill (H.B. 444, H.D.1) providing same-sex couples with full relationship  protections and responsibilities is still alive!  We CAN convince the Senate to pass the  bill, but we need your help now more than ever before.  Please participate in one or more of the following actions so that the civil union bill is heard and passed before the end  of the Legislative session on May 7, 2009.

1. Call, fax and/or email Senators and ask them to support the Civil Union Bill.
Please also let them know if you are one of their constituents.

2. Petition
Here is a petition for you to print, distribute and ask friends, family, co-workers, and everyone in your community to sign. The goal is to have 10,000 signatures by April 30, 2009. Please fax and mail the originals to the address listed on the petition by Thursday, April 30th.

3. Sign wave
Please consider attending these signwaving events or organizing your own.
        4/24/09 – University of Hawaii at Dole and University
        5/1/09 – Waikiki at Kalakaua and Kuhio
        5/5/09 – Capitol Building on Beretania
*All signwaving events to be held from 4-6 p.m.

4. Canvass
Volunteers are needed to go door to door and pass out flyers asking residents to contact senators to support the civil union bill.  The current canvassing effort is focused on Manoa, Sen. Taniguchi’s district, but other districts need canvassing as well.
